All Saints' Church, Wittenberg

All Saints' Church, commonly referred to as ''Schlosskirche'' (Palatial Church) to distinguish it from the ''Stadtkirche'' (Town Church) of St. Mary — and sometimes known as the Reformation Memorial Church - is a Lutheran church in Wittenberg, Germany. It is the site where, according to university custom, the Ninety-Five Theses were posted by Martin Luther on 31 October 1517,〔http://www.castlechurch.org/ CastleChurch.org〕〔(Alard-von-Rohr.com )〕 the act that has been called the start of the Protestant Reformation.〔(ReformationTours.com )〕〔(Uni-Duisburg.de )〕
==History==
All Saints' Church was designed by Conrad Pflüger〔(PlanetWare.com )〕 and built between 1490 and 1511 at the order of Frederick III, Elector of Saxony〔(LutheranWomanToday.org )〕 in the Late Gothic style.〔〔 It is a part of the Electoral Castle or ''Residenzschloss'', also called '.〔 〔(Sacred-Destinations.com )〕
After the foundation of the University of Wittenberg in 1502, the All Saints' was annexed to serve as a chapel to the University, and it quickly evolved into an important academic and worship center. Students were awarded their doctorates there, and Philipp Melanchthon made his famous inaugural speech at the church. A tradition of burying academic dignitaries of the university at the church developed.
Tilman Riemenschneider, Jacopo de' Barbari and Albrecht Dürer contributed to the construction of the ''Schloss'' and then the church.
